Valentine Meringue Hearts

ME-RINGUE: an item of sweet food made by baking a mixture of stiffly beaten egg whites and sugar until crisp.

Grab that Kitchen Aid Mixer and get ready to level up in the kitchen! These delicate little cookies may seem intimdating to make but have no fear because this recipe is easy to follow and the end result is absolutely delicious. Meringue cookies are the perfect light weight sweet treat to share with friends and loved ones. Enjoy!

What You Need

  • 3 Egg Whites
  • 1 Tsp. Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1/4 Tsp. Cream of Tartar
  • 1-2 Drops of Red Food Coloring

-Preheat the oven to 225. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper, set aside.

Use a large mixer to whisk egg whites on medium speed until the egg whites become foamy.

Toss in the cream of tartar and add the sugar, one tablespoon at a time.

Once all of the sugar is added to the mixture, pour in the vanilla extract and mix on high speed for ten minutes.

Add food coloring and bring the speed back down to medium for two minutes.

Fill a pastry bag or large ziplock bag with the meringue mixture. Cut a small hole at the corner of the bag and begin to pipe hearts onto parchment paper using a “V” style aesthetic. Check out the video below for piping inspiration!

**Wait 10 minutes prior to baking. This allows the top of the meringue to crystallize just a little but in order to withold the shape.

Bake at 225 for 1 hour and allow to cool.
